Summer in Pittsburgh is made for festivals, concerts, recreational activities and other great fun. What's even better is that some of them are free! We profile some of the best free things to do in the Pittsburgh area, including free concerts, free events, free activities and more free fun.

Three Rivers Arts Festival

Like most festivals, you can spend a fortune if you don't watch out - on food, games and merchandise. But the Three Rivers Arts Festival offers free art, free live music and free admission, making it a great way to spend a few hours without breaking the bank.

Allegheny County Summer Concert Series

Each summer, Allegheny County offers a variety of free concerts and performances at various parks and other locations throughout the county. Downtown the free concerts can be found in the courtyard of the Allegheny County Courthouse, while in the suburbs you can enjoy free concerts at the South Park Amphitheatre, Hartwood Acres, Boyce Park and North Park. All concerts in the Allegheny County summer concert series are free and open to the public.

Cinema in the Park

Grab a blanket and head out for an unforgettable evening of cinema under the stars. Pittsburgh Citipark's Cinema in the Park features popular family-friendly movies at seven Pittsburgh area parks. Movies are shown seven days a week (a different park each night) and run from the second weekend in June through the end of August. Best of all - they're free!

Wings Over Pittsburgh

If you thing a military air show sounds boring, think again. This air show, hosted by the 911th Airlift Wing of the Air Force Reserve Command, is fun and features military and civilian aerial demonstrations and static displays as well as lots of children's activities. Free admission makes it even better!

Station Square Summer Street Jam

The summer is short enough, so make the most of your Friday nights by heading to the riverfront at Station Square for a free weekly concert. The food and drink aren't free, but the three live bands are - and well worth the trip. Every Friday in July and August.

Pennsylvania Fish for Free Days

Two special days are set aside in Pennsylvania where residents and non-residents can legally fish without a fishing license.
