How Pittsburgh Home Prices Measure UpThe seven-county Pittsburgh region generally ranks among the top 50 most affordable housing markets in the country according to the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Opportunity Index (HOI). The Pittsburgh region ranked 40th most affordable in 2005, with a median home price of $200,000 and a median annual household income of $54,900. The 2004 survey ranked Pittsburgh 32nd with a median home price of $106,000 and a median income of $78,900 (note: the difference from 2004 to 2005 was a result, in part, of a change in the way that the federal government defines metropolitan statistical areas). The National Association of Realtors report ranks Pittsburgh 16th on its list for 2005, with an average home price of $107,600 - ahead of almost all major cities.
