The Bottom Line

The historic Omni William Penn, built in 1916, is elegantly renovated for the 21st century traveler while still retaining its Old World charm. The spacious lobby and other public areas have been recently restored to their original grandeur, and guest rooms have been updated with complimentary wireless Internet and other modern amenities. The 596 rooms and suites come with windows that open, terry robes and 24-hour room service, but inconsistency in rooms and service leave room for improvement.

Guide Review - Omni William Penn Hotel

The elegant, well-appointed guest rooms at the Omni William Penn welcome you in and invite you to relax - at least most of them do. Some of the smaller rooms can feel cramped, and aren't as noise-proof as they should be. It's an old hotel and, despite renovations, some of the room furnishings are a bit dated. The staff is generally efficient and courteous, and 24-hour room service is a nice touch. The lobby and grand ballroom are stunning - a great place to curl up with a good book! Another don't miss is elegant afternoon tea in the Palm Court.

Guests at the Omni William Penn have their choice of pillows (foam, feather or down) upon request, and of course there are the chain's signature Get Fit Guest Rooms with portable treadmills. If you're traveling with the family, the OmniKids program provides a suitcase full of toys and games to occupy them during your stay, plus a goodie bag upon check-in. If you're not already a member, the free Omni Select Guest program offers an enhanced level of service.

The Omni William Penn is located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, with easy access to the subway and just four blocks from the Convention Center. If you're driving yourself, be sure to bring along a good map of the city, or you might get tripped up by the one-way streets around the hotel. Nearby attractions include the Pittsburgh Cultural District, the Strip District and the Pittsburgh Regional History Center.
