Kennywood Phantom Fright Nights - 2008

By Albrecht Powell, About.com

Each fall, after Kennywood's gates close for the winter, the Phantom takes possession of the midway. Experience many haunted walk-throughs and mazes, including Voo-Doo Bayou (new for 2008), Mortem Manor, Villa of the Vampires, Captain Skully s Curse in 3-D, Fear Festival, Ghostwood Estate (new for 2008) and Haunted Ark, plus Kennyville Cemetery and Gory Park. Enjoy thrills and screams after the sun goes down on favorite Kennywood rides including the SwingShot, Jack Rabbit, the Exterminator, the Thunderbolt, King Kahuma and, of course, Phantom's Revenge. Classic rides like Noah's Ark are also open.

Dates and Times:

Friday & Saturday nights, September 26 - November 1, 2008
7:00 pm to 1:00 am

* Plus, Sunday, October 12th, from 7:00pm to 11:00pm

Prices:

Tickets for Phantom Fright Nights are $23.00 at Kennywood - $20.00 if you purchase them in advance at any participating Giant Eagle location. Phantom Fright Night tickets will be on sale at participating Giant Eagle stores by mid-September.

What to Expect:

In the spirit of Halloween, Kennywood undergoes a complete make-over, with costumed actors roaming the paths, spooky music filling the air, classic horror movies playing, fog blanketing the park and every light bulb in the park is changed to a different color - even in the restrooms! Chainsaw-wielding ghouls jump out in the most unexpected places, and the traditional rides take on a spooky theme.

Freaky Food:

Almost a dozen food stands are open throughout the park with Halloween-themed foods such as Fright Fries, Monster Dogs, Brain Freezes, Cemetery Sausage, Grave Yard Pizza and Cotton Cobwebs.

Before you Go:

For safety reasons, masks, costume-style make-up and costumes are not permitted at Phantom Fright Nights. Kennywood does not recommend Phantom Fright Nights for children under 13, but all ages are admitted.

The busiest days are expected to be Saturdays, October 11, 18 and 25. You've been warned!
