Where:
The University of Pittsburgh's beautiful Petersen Events Center serves as the main hub for the entire Senior Olympics. Nearby Schenley Park will serve as the backdrop for Archery, Horseshoes and Tennis competitions, while North Park will play host to Cycling, Golf, Race Walk, Road Race, Softball and Triathlon. Track & Field will be held at Carnegie Mellon University and bowling at Princess Lanes in Whitehall, PA.
Admission:
All athletic competitions at the Senior Olympics are free of charge for spectators. Guest Credentials, available for $10, grant access to the Olympic Loop shuttle bus and certain Special Events.
Athletic Competitions:
Sports of the 2005 Senior Olympics include archery, badminton, basketball, bowling, cycling, golf, horseshoes, race walking, racquetball, running, shuffleboard, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track & field, triathlon, and volleyball. Competitions will be going on throughout the 15-day event. Most sports have competitions on multiple days, with the exception of the 1500m race walk (June 15), the 5000m race walk (June 13), the road race (June 11 & 13), and the Triathlon (June 12).
Getting Around:
The Olypmic Loop shuttle bus provides transportation between the Petersen Events Center on the University of Pittsburgh campus, the Carnegie Mellon University campus, Schenley Park, and Downtown Pittsburgh. The shuttle also stops at several cultural destinations in the Oakland and downtown neighborhoods, including the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, the Heinz History Center and Sports Museum, and the Three Rivers Arts Festival.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Due to overwhelming response, all general volunteer positions have been filled. Medical volunteers are still needed to help staff sport venues and the morning "sick call" for athletes. Medical volunteers will be responsible for performing basic first aid and triage of injuries sustained by athletes or spectators while participating at the games.
