Fifty-three miles of the New River and the gorge through which it runs, encompassing more than 70,000 acres, is preserved by the National Park Service as the New River Gorge National River. This beautiful, scenic park located in southern West Virginia, is a popular spot for hiking, camping, fishing, rafting and rock climbing. Special events include the popular fall New River Train excursions and Bridge Day in October, and Wildflower Weekend in April.
