Pittsburgh Area Brewpubs & Microbreweries
Pittsburgh was a major brewing center prior to prohibition, but following the repeal of prohibition in 1933 the city never really returned to the craft. Home brewing became legal in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County in 1977 and brewpubs not until about 1989. Since then, a number of brewpubs and microbreweries have come and gone in Pittsburgh. Church Brew Works
Pittsburgh microbrewery and restaurant turns out some interesting award-winning beers. A few are also available for retail purchase, including Pipe Organ Pale Ale and Pious Monk Dunkel.
Fat Heads
Fat Heads Saloon is a neighborhood bar & grill on the South Side with sandwiches, burgers, wings, and plenty of beer. Dozens of different beers on tap, plus a large selection of U.S. microbrews and their own Fat Heads Ale.
John Harvard's Brew House
The Monroeville branch of this restaurant and micro brewery produces a full range of beers including lagers, malts, ales and stouts.
Mellinger's Beer Distributor
This large Oakland beer distributor has a huge list of imported beer, micro brews, domestic beers and kegs, plus all of the local Pittsburgh beers, of course.
Piper's Pub
Although it boasts the look and feel of an authentic Celtic tavern, Piper's Pub on Carson Street, South Side, offers a surprisingly large beer list. Mostly Irish and British beers, and the a large selection of single malts.
Pittsburgh Brewing Company
Begun in 1861 as Iron City Brewery, the Pittsburgh Brewing Company is best known for its signature Iron City Beer and IC Light. They also brew Augustiner.
Rolling Rock
Pittsburgh favorites Rolling Rock and Rock Green Light beers are brewed in historic Latrobe, PA, at the Latrobe Brewing Company. Learn about the history of the company, how the beer is brewed, and more about the beer. The company store and museum offers Rolling Rock merchandise and memorabilia. Daylight brewery tours are offered.
Sharp Edge Beer Emporium & Creekhouse
This Friendship neighborhood bar is considered by most as the best beer bar in Pittsburgh. They offer dozens of beers on tap, and more than a hundred more by the bottle. If you want something a bit more upscale, then the Creekhouse in Crafton is more of a restaurant than a bar, but still has a great selection of beers.

Steel City Beer offers hundreds of different beers, including a large International selection. They ship beer too - including Iron City, of course!
Vecenie Distributing Company
Vecenie's has been delivering beer in Pittsburgh since 1933, including the local Pittsburgh favorite Iron City beer, as well as beers from as far as Northern California, Germany and the Czech Republic.
