Canal boats going over a mountain? Discover the story of this unique railroad at Allegheny Railroad National Historic Site atop Cresson Mountain in southwestern Pennsylvania. Experience a bit of forgotten history as you walk the trails along part of the old railroad route. Explore the park and uncover this early era of steam engines and canal boats.

  • Restored historic tavern with exhibits

How to Get There:


Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic park is located 12 miles west of Altoona and 10 miles east of Ebensburg on US Route 22. Take the Gallitzin Exit and turn right. Federal Park Road ends at the visitor center.

Open 9am - 5pm daily, closed federal winter holidays

Fees:


$3 per person, children 16 and under admitted free
