Each summer, Allegheny County hosts a series of free summer concerts at various parks and other locations around the Pittsburgh area. All performances in the Allegheny County Summer Concert Series are free and open to the public. Highlights for 2009 include the 15th annual Pittsburgh Blues Festival at Hartwood Acres and alt-country stalwarts Steve Earle, Son Volt and the Old 97s. Old favorites such as the Pittsburgh Symphony and River City Brass Band will be joined by former Rolling Stone guitarist Mick Taylor, Irish folk-rocker Luk Bloom and classic rock band, Foghat.
Summer Concert Locations:
Concerts in the Allegheny County Summer Concert Series can be enjoyed at South Park and Hartwood Acres, with a few single events held at North Park. It appears that either budget cuts or a change of pace have nixed the free concerts at the County Courthouse Courtyard (downtown) this summer; instead that space will be hosting "Food Fridays" instead.2009 Free Summer Concert Series Line-Up:
The River City Brass Band kicks off the free Allegheny County concert season on Friday, June 5 at South Park, followed by the Pittsburgh Opera on June 7 at Hartwood Acres. All performances are free and open to the public.Find concerts/events by location:
