| Getting To & Around Pittsburgh | |
|
Pittsburgh presents numerous challenges to bicyclists and pedestrians including hilly terrain; narrow, winding roads and busy roadways. For people who like to get out and walk or bike, there are a lot of great alternatives, however. Biking and hiking trails are a part of Pittsburgh's City Plan, which outlines a strategy for improving bicycling conditions in Pittsburgh, while raising the profile of bicycling as a mode of transportation. Trails, considered a part of the city's transportation network, are being developed on the sites of the old railroad tracks around the area. You can see Pittsburghers out walking, biking, and even skateboarding whenever the weather permits. Someday soon you will be able to ride a bicycle or even walk into town from the outlying areas.
The City of Pittsburgh also offers many self-guided walking tours allowing you to explore historic churches, city legacies, architectural details and much more.
