Not Just for Locals
Throughout each of its five editions, Pittsburgh: The Story of an
American City has been lauded as the "definitive history of
Pittsburgh." Author Stefan Lorant, the creator of modern photo-journalism
at Life magazine,
lived in Pittsburgh for 10 years to create the first edition of this book,
which includes more than 1100 beautiful photos and contributions by such
noted American historians as Henry Steele Commager and Oscar Handlin. The
final chapter, titled "The Best is Yet to Come" was written after Lorant's
death by friends Bruce & Gail Campbell, and extends the history of
Pittsburgh from 1988 through the millennium. A must-read for anyone who
lives in or wants to know more about the dramatic 200+ year history of
Pittsburgh. | |
