Temporary Memorial for Flight 93

<Previous Picture> <Next Picture>
Chain link fence serves as a temporary memorial for United Flight 93

A quarter-mile from the crash site stands a 50-foot, chain-link fence that serves as a makeshift shrine to September 11, and to the 40 heroes who died when they declared their own personal war on terrorism and fought back against the hijackers. Two 4-by-8 sheets of plywood are filled each week with thoughts and prayers from the thousands of visitors. More notes of thanks also grace nearby rocks, parking lot guardrails, and the walls of the portable toilet.
