Game Predictions - Week 12

Dateline: 11/17/00

A little while back, the Steelers defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars on their own turf, something they had never done. Now they get to take on the Jags again, but this time in Three Rivers Stadium Sunday night on national television. Kordell Stewart has not won in his own stadium as a starter in some time, so the outcome could be a tossup. This could mark the beginning of the end of the Kordell Stewart era as well if he is not impressive. ESPN will cover the game beginning at 8:00pm. Now for this week’s predictions:

ESPN Staff
(Joe Theismann, Merril Hoge, Sean Salisbury, Schottenheimer, Mark Malone, Ron Jaworski, Mike Golic, Chris Mortensen): Hoge and Golic are the only ones picking the Steelers against the spread; Theismann made no pick.

The Sporting News Staff (Paul Attner, Dave Darling, Carl Moritz, Gary
Horton, Mike Nahrstedt, Matt Pitzer, Dan Pompei): All picking Pittsburgh against the spread

Bob Harmon, CBS Sportsline:
Pittsburgh 23, Jacksonville 14

Pro Football Weekly Staff
(Hub Arkush, Ron Pollack, Neil Warner, Keith
Schleiden, Dan Arkush, Jeff Agrest, Trent Modglin): All but Schleiden and Dan Arkush are picking Pittsburgh against the spread, with Schleiden saying the Jags will cover, and Arkush predicting a Jaguar victory.

CBS Sportsline
(Len Pasquarelli Bart Wright Derek Harper): All picking the Steelers against the spread.

Peter O'Brien, USA Today:  STEELERS, 21-17

Jay Novacek, MSNBC Sports:  Steelers

Gary Dulac, Pittsburgh Post Gazette:  Jaguars, 21-17

Steelers Hotline: It is amazing what has happened to the once mighty Jacksonville Jaguars. However, they have had a rash of injuries that has not helped their season. But, this team is still dangerous, and can still surprise. Facing a still tough Pittsburgh defense, this game will probably resemble most of the games the Steelers have played this season; tough defense on both sides, little offense. This could be Kordell's last chance to win at home, and I think he will have his moments, but you can expect major BOO-BIRDS in this one, thus he will not have a good performance. Perhaps this will be the time we finally see Tee Martin, but don't count on it. I see Kordell getting yanked for Kent Graham before the game ends, but the Steelers will still eek out a close win.

Pittsburgh 17, Jacksonville 10

On a final note for the day, Marvel Smith has won back his job on the offensive line from Larry Tharpe, and hats go off to Tharpe who did a magnificent job in relief.
