Game Predictions - Week 10

Dateline: 11/04/00

Another Sunday approaches, another week of being the underdog. In the games that the Pittsburgh Steelers have played thus far in 2000 we have not been the favorite in most of them. But, the Steelers usually relish the idea of being the underdog. They have more to play for, and more incentive to come out a winner. So on this coming Sunday, they have more of a goal to reach than ever before in this season; they get a chance to topple a team that has a share of the best record in the AFC. And Dave Darling of The Sporting News had this to say about the Steelers in giving out his first-half season awards: "Biggest Surprise -- Pittsburgh Steelers: With expectations low and the team pretty much written off after an 0-3 start, the Steelers have rebounded with five straight wins. If they beat or even play Tennessee tough on Sunday, they could be a real factor in second half of the season." However, it seems once again, the media experts are going with the favorite in this weekend's game (Pittsburgh is the underdog by 8). Here's how the picks shape up:

Bloomberg Sports: Titans 20, Steelers 17

ESPN Staff
(Joe Theismann, Merril Hoge, Sean Salisbury, Schottenheimer, Mark Malone, Ron Jaworski, Mike Golic, Chris Mortensen): Mike Golic selects Pittsburgh and the rest pick Tennessee.

The Sporting News Staff (Paul Attner, Dave Darling, Carl Moritz, Gary
Horton, Mike Nahrstedt, Matt Pitzer, Dan Pompei): All picking Tennessee.

Bob Harmon, CBS Sportsline:
Tennessee 21, Pittsburgh 14

Football Weekly Staff
(Hub Arkush, Ron Pollack, Neil Warner, Keith
Schleiden, Dan Arkush, Jeff Agrest, Trent Modglin): Both Arkush's are
picking Pittsburgh against the spread as is Neil Warner, all else pick
Tennessee against the spread.

CBS Sportsline
(Len Pasquarelli Bart Wright Derek Harper): All picking
Tennessee.

Peter O'Brien, USA Today:  Tennessee 17, Pittsburgh 13

Jay Novacek, MSNBC Sports:  Titans

Gary Dulac, Pittsburgh Post Gazette:  Pittsburgh 13, Tennessee 10

Steelers Hotline: "With the Steelers playing so hot these days, you really don't want to be the one picking against them, especially if they are your favorite team. But, playing in Tennessee, on the road, on a field where the home team has not lost this season, as well as having won so many divisional games in a row, picking the Steelers is a tough task to do. This game should be extremely tight with the Black and Gold defense playing the way they have. The Titans have received one less day of rest than Pittsburgh having played on Monday night. This will be a factor. That, and having to have played against a tough, physical Washington Redskin team on their field. The Steelers have much more to play for here, and their attitude right now is much better than Tennessee. The Steeler players are playing with a will-to-win, and more confidence than they have had in years. I believe that, and their type of mistake-free football that they have been carrying out, will be the factor on this day. Like Gary Dulac, I believe that this much-hyped game will be the "upset-of-the-day." The Steeler players finally believe in themselves, they believe they belong amongst the best, and this is their chance to prove it."
Pittsburgh 13, Tennessee 10
