Spooky Walks & Haunted Walking Tours

Thursday October 22, 2009

Don't care for the haunted attractions full of chainsaw wielding monsters, things that jump out and scare you, and strobe lights and other special effects? Why not try one of these historic haunted walks or tours, which feature "true" tales of spooky ghostly happenings along with historic homes and sites festively adorned in Halloween style.

In Jeannette, Westmoreland County, experience a chilling look at the eighteenth century on the American frontier at Bushy Run Battlefield on Saturday, October 24th, as historical reenactors frighten you with scenes and stories from Pontiac's War on a special Haunted History Hayride & Candlelight Walk.

Also this weekend, October 23-24, 2009, the Allegheny West Civic Council will sponsor its annual Spirits of Allegheny West Walking Tour through the 150-year-old North Side historic district. No houses are open for this tour, but you'll stop outside of several houses and other locations to hear spine-tingling tales of ghostly appearances.

Depreciation Lands Museum in Allison Park is offering a fun and not-very-scary family Halloween Lantern Tour this Saturday, October 24th. Costumed guides lead the way with their lighted lanterns and you might even catch a glimpse of the resident ghost - The Deacon!

October 23-24 and October 30-31, 2009, the West Overton Museums in Scottdale, PA, present evening Haunted Village Tours with the Haunting of the Homestead House, the Out Buildings, the Stock Barn of Mystery and the Village Ghosts. New for this year, there is a Haunted Homestead Hayride as well as an Old Fashioned Monster all.

In Fayette County, the 217-year-old Nemacolin Castle offers Candlelit Halloween Ghost Tours with stories of documented ghostly experiences that have occured within the castle walls every Saturday and Sunday in October.
