Car Free Fridays

Bike Pittsburgh, the city's bicycle advocacy and awareness organization, has decided that the single national Bike to Word Day to celebrate and encourage biking is "hardly enough." As a result, this week they are kicking off Car Free Fridays, encouraging commuters to leave the car at home and bike into work each Friday. The event launch includes breakfast for all car-free commuters at Schenley Plaza in Oakland this Friday, June 12, from 8-10:00 a.m., with guest speakers, free coffee and food. Fifth Avenue Place will also host a free, light breakfast for anyone who shows their bike helmet.

At the end of the work day, join Venture Outdoors for a leisurely urban bike ride exploring the roads and riverfront trails of the North Side and South Side. The ride will end at the Penn Brewery on the North Side for happy hour. The ride is free to members of BikePGH, YPA or Venture Outdoors and $10 for non-members. Pre-registration is encouraged.

Show up at one of the Car Free Fridays breakfast locations to receive vouchers for discounts at local businesses, including restaurants and retailers, as well as discounts for events and activities. The vouchers will be valid all day on June 12.

Car Free Fridays will continue throughout the summer.
