Find the Perfect Christmas Tree

Saturday November 29, 2008
If you're like us, picking out the perfect Christmas tree is a major event in the Christmas season. We almost always get a Fraser Fir since it will retain its needles longer than most other varieties available in the area - I hate to vacuum! I'm sure each of you have your own particular favorite as well. Other holiday trees that can be found around the Pittsburgh area include the popular douglas fir, the concolor fir, and the cannan fir, plus scotch pine, white pine, blue spruce, and the harder to find noble fir from the Northwest U.S.

Many Pittsburgh area Christmas tree farms and Christmas tree stands grow or stock most of these varieties and let you choose and cut your own Christmas tree, pick out the perfect live Christmas tree, or pick out a tree and have them cut it for you. Most Pittsburgh area garden centers also stock Christmas trees, some of them locally grown. Can't decide which tree to buy? Check out this Christmas tree buyer's guide or top 10 favorite Christmas trees from About Forestry.

Once you get your Christmas tree home, be sure to give it plenty of water and choose a location away from heater vents and south facing windows. Learn more in how to keep a cut Christmas tree fresh. Then find inspiration for the right finishing touches in decorating your Christmas tree.
