Pittsburgh Ranked Among World's Top Destinations
Frommer's, one of the world's most respected travel guides, has highlighted Pittsburgh as one of 13 places around the world that are especially worthy of visiting in 2008. The annual list includes different destinations each year - each chosen by the Frommer's editorial team for its unique appeal to travelers. Pittsburgh was chosen this year primarily for its thriving arts scene, as well as the the special events planned as part of the city's 250th anniversary celebration in 2008.
The Frommer's article makes a special point of spotlighting Pittsburgh's natural beauty of modern architecture and ethnic neighborhoods surrounded by rolling hills and rivers "crisscrossed by more bridges than any other city in the world." The city's many cultural and historical attractions are also featured, especially our many museums: the Carnegie Museum of Natural History for it's world-renowned dinosaur collection; the Andy Warhol Museum devoted to the life and work of Pittsburgh's famous native artist; and nearby Fallingwater, considered by many to be architect Frank Lloyd Wright's greatest masterpiece.
Oh yes, and they also said we have "some of the nation's friendliest residents."
Other accolades for Pittsburgh in 2006/2007 include "America's Most Livable City" in Rand McNally's Places Rated Almanac; best arts destination for midsize cities by American Style magazine; top city for computer geeks by Wired magazine; and one of the world's top 10 cleanest cities by Forbes Magazine; and number 4 in Senior Magazine's 2007 Top American Cities for Seniors.
