Miniature Railroad & Village 2007-2008
Did you know that the Miniature Railroad & Village at the Pittsburgh Carnegie Science Center is one of the largest, most detailed train layouts in the United States? With a bit of artistic license, the 87-year-old Miniature Railroad & Village recreates the sights, sounds and traditions of Pittsburgh and Southwestern Pennsylvania from 1880 to 1930. One or two new replicas are added to the exhibit almost every year, giving returning visitors something new to look forward to. For 2007, the new scale model is of a Pittsburgh favorite, the classic ballpark Forbes Field. The model's outfield wall is even constructed from crushed brick taken from the actual Forbes Field wall, part of which is still standing in Oakland.

If you haven't been to the Miniature Railroad & Village in a couple of years, I think you'll be in for a delightful surprise! Along with Forbes Field, other recent additions include a new roundhouse, operating turntable and railyard; a trestle tunnel and elevated track; and ornate replicas of the first Gulf gas station and the Luna Park entrance.
