Our Great Retro Ballpark

Thursday August 2, 2007
View of downtown Pittsburgh from the upper deck at PNC Park. Photo by David Raboin.Kenneth Hogan, author of America's Ballparks, discussed America's love affair with its ballparks on the Today Show this morning, as legendary ballparks were announced as their 7th spot on the America the Beautiful list of the country's most beautiful places. When asked his about his favorite ballpark, Kenny gave his nod to Pittsburgh: "PNC Park in Pittsburgh, believe it or not. They did everything right when they built that stadium. They incorporated the history of the team and the city into it when they did it."

If you haven't yet experienced PNC Park for yourself, the Pirates are in town through the weekend. Sunday afternoon games are especially fun for families, with a Fun Zone open on Federal Street before the game, and Kids Run the Bases after the game. Plan your visit with our Baseball Fan's Guide to PNC Park or view photos and learn a little history in our PNC Park Photo Tour.

The ballpark is indeed beautiful, but who wants to see the team that plays inside it–urban blight at its worst!
