In 1954, the Miniature Railroad & Village first came to Pittsburgh where it has been delighting holiday visitors ever since. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of this legendary Pittsburgh tradition, Carnegie Science Center partnered with Argentine Productions to produce a documentary called, 50 Years on Track: Pittsburgh's Miniature Railroad & Village. The documentary takes people behind the scenes to hear the railroad's story, see how the landscape is created, learn about the technology and people who keep the display running, and enjoy vistas of the miniature landscape. It even includes a view of the ride along the Miniature Railroad from a camera mounted on a train car.
50 Years on Track will air locally on WQED on Saturday, December 23, at 4:00 p.m. and is also available for purchase as a 23-minute long DVD at the Carnegie Science Center Xplore Store. As great as the film is, however, you should also be sure to visit the display in person if you haven't already. The Miniature Railroad & Village is a real holiday treat!
