Penn State & WVU Near the Top of Party School List

Monday August 21, 2006
The two state universities, both within a few hours of Pittsburgh, are ranked No. 2 and 3, respectively, on Princeton Review's 2007 ranking of the nation's best party schools. But not to worry - if you're looking for a school that's "stone cold sober" we've got one of them too - Grove City College in Mercer County was ranked No. 4 on that list.

The top party school spot went to the University of Texas at Austin, while Brigham Young University was No. 1 on the "sober" side. Students were surveyed on the use of hard liquor, beer drinking, marijuana smoking and other party habits.

On the U.S. News & World Report's 2007 listing of college rankings, also released this week, Carnegie Mellon University moved up a place to 21st overall, and ranked 8th for its undergraduate engineering and business programs. The University of Pittsburgh tied for 57th place overall with Boston University and Ohio State University, and ranked 19th among national public universities.

Penn State ranked 47th overall on the best national university list, and was 13th in the best public universities category. Grove City College ranked 7th in the Comprehensive Colleges: North category, where it ranked 1st for "best value."
