AFC Championship Game
Thursday January 19, 2006
They busted Cincy. Upset Indy. So, what do the Pittsburgh Steelers have planned for Denver in Sunday's AFC Championship game? Something good, I bet, so get those Terrible Towels ready.
One game at a time. It's a formula which seems to be working well for the Steelers lately. But this time the game is the AFC Championship, against the AFC West Champion Denver Broncos in the mile high city. Just one game - sixty minutes of football -- is the only obstacle between the Steelers and their sixth Super Bowl appearance. The matchup against Denver is the sixth conference title game in 12 years for the Steelers, and was expected to be a longshot after the Steelers put themselves in the position of having to win their last four games of the season to sneak into the playoffs with the last wildcard spot. They proved themselves up to the challenge, however, and after the wild, crazy win over the heavily-favored Indianapolis Colts last week, the Steelers are the first sixth-seeded team to reach a championship game since the NFL went to the current lineup of six playoff teams from each conference in 1990. Tickets to the Steelers-Broncos matchup are selling at a record-high, some going for as high as $2,000 apiece, on sites like Stub Hub, eBay and craigslist.com.
If you're not heading out to Denver to watch the Steelers in person, then catch the action at one of these popular Pittsburgh sports bars (or one of these Steelers-friendly bars for you out-of-town fans). Or plan your own Steelers party at home, with these fun football snacks to eat between the cheers.
