Aluminum City - Iron City Beer in Aluminum Bottles

Tuesday August 24, 2004
The companies that introduced the pull-top aluminum can and twist-off resealable cap have partnered again. Pittsburgh Brewing Company and Alcoa announced today that they are introducing a new aluminum bottle for "Iron City" beer - the first beer to be introduced nationally in an aluminum bottle.

While about three times as expensive as their glass bottle counterparts, aluminum bottles do have a few advantages. They are unbreakable (great for taking rafting, hiking, fishing, etc.), the beer chills quicker and stays colder longer, and -- to some -- the aluminum bottles just look cool.

While the first nationally distributed beer to jump on the bandwagon, Iron City is not the first beer to appear in aluminum bottles. Big Sky Brewing in Missoula, Montana, introduced some of its beer in aluminum bottles over a year ago. Not to be left behind, Anheuser-Busch plans to roll out an aluminum bottle on some of its high-end beers this fall.

The new aluminum Iron City bottles will be available in specially designed 24-packs at all distributors and retail establishments this month. Iron City will also continue to be available in traditional glass bottles.
