Pittsburgh Worst City for Singles - Again

Wednesday July 7, 2004
Forbes Magazine editors try to soften the blow, but Pittsburgh has once again come in dead last in their annual "Best Cities for Singles" poll.

"Pittsburgh finish last on our best cities for singles list. Again. And with that, we expect renewed threats to our well being. But before you hit the send button this time, Steel City, read this: Pittsburgh is one of the most beautiful, cultured, and, yes, fun towns we have had the pleasure of visiting over the past four years..."

Come on guys! The inclusion of a readers poll (something which always seems to drop Pittsburgh's score into the gutter) means this ranking is a bit less than scientific. The fact that this poll centers on the greater metro area, rather than just the city of Pittsburgh, doesn't help us much either. Then we're up against the fact that Allegheny County has one of the highest senior populations in the US.

Personally, I'd say some of the lack of singles in Pittsburgh is that most of us just don't stay single for long. I was single here for only my college years (I'm a transplant from South Carolina) before I met and married my wonderful husband. I'm still here, so the fact that Pittsburgh has one less single girl doesn't mean there's anything wrong with our great city!

I find Pittsburgh men to be crude and they drink too much alcohol. Most of them have never mentally grown out of their teens, they all want to be 18 years old forever and want to date little airhead girls that they can tell anything to and be believed. It is quite depressing to have to deal with this type of mentality. I would like to know what is wrong with these young girls and their families who let them go out with these losers. One of these losers I am talking about is 38 years old, has a daughter who is 18 and dates his daughters peers. He is a local Tattoo Artist, go figure. There is alot of this that goes on here. This place is the “Pitts” when it comes to trying to find a mature responsible man to date.

I agree with Diane, Pittsburgh men drink too much and place entirely too much focus on sports. In comparison, the women act like bubble-headed, arrogant, uneducated whores — a surprise, considering Pittsburgh is home to several remarkable universities.

I feel so fortunate that I met my wife in South Carolina ! Had I been left to the Pittsburgh singles scene, I’d probably elect to remain single.
