Steelers Get a Much-Needed Win
Monday November 10, 2003
Not many teams are looking as bad as the Pittsburgh Steelers this year. Originally expected to contend for the Super Bowl, the Steelers are now fighting for survival at 3-6.
For the first time in seven weeks, however, the Steelers finally know what it's like to win. Their 28-15 victory against the Arizona Cardinals (3-5) yesterday, while not spectacular, has at least kept alive a chance at the playoffs.
Despite falling three games behind Baltimore in the AFC North, the Steelers still hope to get back into the division race. According to ESPN, only one team has made the playoffs after a 2-6 start (the 1970 Cincinnati Bengals), and it hasn't been done since the league adopted a 16-game schedule in 1978.
Can it be done? Never say never. The '76 Steelers started 1-4 and didn't lose again until the AFC championship game in Oakland.
